Counsellor for Children and Young People

You may be a young person looking to talk to someone or be the parent or carer of a younger child or teenager needing support. I have specialist training in this area and have many years experience as a counsellor for children and young people.

Being a young person can be really hard work and it’s not a sign of weakness to ask for help when you’re struggling and feel no-one understands you. I can provide a safe place to talk about any issue where you will not be judged or criticised, and help you find ways to manage your worries and begin to enjoy life again. I believe in helping you to understand and take control of your situation, as far as you can, and to make healthy and positive choices about your life.

I enjoy helping young people cope with the particular pressures they experience growing up in today’s world with all its challenges and opportunities. I am able to provide help and support for young people and children trying to cope with a wide range of issues, including among others: anxiety and depression, lack of self-confidence or self-worth, abuse, on-line bullying, bereavement, problems at school or college, self-harm or suicidal thoughts, feeling unhappy, and family or relationship difficulties. I am comfortable working with children and young people of all ages and backgrounds, including those with learning difficulties or behavioural problems.

Counselling for Parents and Carers

I am also happy to offer counselling for parents or carers of a younger child or teenager needing support. I know it can be very challenging and lonely being a parent or carer, particularly when your child is struggling and you feel unable to help.

My Experience

I have a background of working in schools providing counselling for teenagers and children in the Exeter area, as well as in other support roles. I have extensive experience of the particular difficulties and stresses children and young people may find themselves struggling with at different ages and situations. I am experienced in working with young people with learning difficulties and additional needs, including those on the Autism Spectrum, and from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

All my work with children and young people provides support with high professional standards for Child Protection and Safeguarding. I refer to and work with other agencies where this is in the young person’s best interests and beyond my particular areas of expertise.
